The Toxic Virus of Cyberbullying

The Toxic Virus of Cyberbullying
Cyberbullying has grown popular in recent years due to the increase in technology and social media. The act itself has caused countless issues for those who are bullied. Cyberbullying has grown so extreme that in some cases, the victim is driven to end their own life. In the past, those who were victims of bullying were only bullied at school, now, due to advanced technology, these individuals come home and are victimized when they log onto social media.

The topic has become so well known that movies have been created to portray cyberbullying. The 2011 movie Cyberbully portrays a young girl who is bullied through social media and the struggle she endures. This movie shows the realistic side of cyberbullying and the fight activists are facing to reduce the prevalence of online bullying.

Although, cyberbullying is not as large of an issue as when social media first became popular, it is still prevalent. Schools and the government have been working to find a solution to this issue. Some schools have created rules that allow students to be punished for bullying another student off of school property. Many institutions are making changes to reduce the prevalence of cyberbullying.

I believe that schools and other institutions have made great progress to stop this form of bullying. Although bullying will never disappear, I believe that if schools stay aware of the issue, it can be prevented or stopped in many situations.
